Description
This place takes its name from the Flumentorgiu watchtower, built by the Spanish in the Seventeenth Century to avoid invasions and raids by Saracen pirates.
From the headland where the tower is located along the road to the sea, you can enjoy one of the most wonderful and unspoilt views of the West coast. This is a wide wild beach that arrives to Pistis, surrounded by Mediterranean bushes, rich in particular parfumes and colors in every season, with a thousand shades, from dawn to dusk, going form the from turquoise-green sea, to the ochre sand, to the deepest greens of the bare vegetation.
You can easily spend a nice day in company, among the sea umbrellas, or find an isolated place also in crowded days.
Among the sand dunes you can discover “La Casa del Poeta” (the poet’s house), a beautiful centuries-old juniper transformed in a romantic summer getaway by Efisio Sanna, a former miner, and his life partner Orlanda Sassu, poets for passion. A haven of peace not easy to distinguish from the rest of the Mediteranen scrub.
This picturesque building attracts and captures the imagination transporting the visitor into a fairytale world. The mighty juniper rises and tangles up on itself and creates walls and ceiling with its branches and leaves. Messages written by the poets or by the visitors are posted here.
Perfect for
Young people, and to stay in company or isolated among the sand dunes.
Beach features
Dunes of medium-grained golden sand; sea slopes down rather quickly.
The sea is often moved by the wind, sandy bottoms with holes and vortexes when the sea is rough. It is definitely a funny and captivating and involving sea also because of its high rollers. But be careful and use your common sense: it can be hazardous also for the most experienced swimmers.
Please note that the sea of the “Costa Verde” is often shaken by Mistral, with strong currents and high waves. When the sea is particularly rough, caution and good common sense are necessary.
